Goal = Pop Star is an autobiographical documentary exploration of my multifaceted relationship with my mother. In the midst of a record release tour, my record label drops me and I return to my childhood home in Ann Arbor to take a job as my mother’s real estate assistant where I struggle to come to terms with my mom’s hypercritical nature which likely sent me on my pop star odyssey in the first place.
How to survive your mother? Answer, don't let her hear your new song lyrics. My mom was not happy back in the day with my "Sushi" song and did NOT approve of our performance at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco.
My mom is my biggest critic and creative muse. She was an actress and singer in college but put that part of herself away when she got married and started a family. I've been documenting my relationship with her for many years in various forms - film, video, writings, audio recordings, songs.
